Tawa Historical Society Incorporated
The Tawa Historian
Newsletter #32 – July 2013
Dear members,
The following matters were among those discussed at our recent Executive meeting:
Condolences were sent to Marjorie Todd on the death of her husband Alan, who was a foundation member of our Society, and a great Tawa advocate.
A second reprint of Memories of Tawa has been ordered and received. We have now printed 180 copies. Only 28 remain. It is unlikely that we will reprint any more. If members require a copy, they are on sale from the Library.
A draft copy of A History of Tawa has been circulated to a number of people for their comments and suggestions. At the moment we appear to be on track for a November launch.
The Wellington City Council officers have notified us that they “would consider placing a sign (information sign) in Willowbank Park.” We will work with them to bring this proposal to fruition. This would bring to seven the number of public signs in Tawa to which we have contributed. (The others are in Grasslees Reserve; at the entrance to Charles Duncan Reserve; plaques set into footpaths along the line of the Old Porirua Road; beneath the Memorial Oak tree outside the gates of Tawa School; the illuminated heritage sign outside the Tawa Liobrary; and as decorative panels on the Tawa Railway Station.)
Phil Harland is working with the Tawa Rotary Club to provide another Historical Walk through Tawa. The proposed date for the walk is Sunday 23 February 2014.
Our AGM for 2013 is set down for Monday 26 August. It will be held in the old Council Chambers in the Tawa Community Centre.
With kind regards
Yours sincerely
Bruce Murray
