Tawa Historical Society Incorporated
The Tawa Historian
Newsletter #17 – July 2008
Dear Members,
SPECIAL OFFER
This is a special newsletter concerning some of our earlier publications. As you will know, we are very fortunate to have Karol de Raad as one of our members. Karol owns Porirua Print, the firm which prints all our publications. As well as that, he designs the covers of our books and booklets, prints the Heritage Trail maps available free from the Tawa Library, produces posters to advertise our books, and has provided us with letterhead stationery, business cards, and cards for use by those who would like to become members of THS (available from the Library). He is very generous and helpful to our Society.
Recently he has done a bit of spring cleaning at Porirua Print, and has given us a number of copies of books we have printed. Some of these were out of stock. They are copies of:
The Streets of Tawa ($20)
An Historical Atlas of Tawa ($58)
As well as those, he has also given us extra copies of:
Lest Tawa Forgets ($20)
Best of Tawa Vol. 1 ($20)
The Takapu Road Ammunition Dump of the US Marines ($7.50)
We would like to offer these to members first before we go to the general public. They are given by Karol to help our finances, and are available at the original prices as listed above. Please contact Bruce Murray (232 5374) about purchasing any of the above.
We are most fortunate to have Karol as a member, and I want to thank him most sincerely for both his work and his generosity.
Postscript: Don’t forget the inaugural Tawa History Week from 4 – 8 August 2008, to be held from 10.15am to 11.30am each morning in the Tawa Library. See the Kapi-Mana of 29 July 2008 for details of the programme.
